In this opera, Antonio Pappano directs a star-studded cast in what is considered a new production of Bellini’s masterpiece, “Norma.” Such production for the Royal Opera, stands out thanks to an unmatched cast of internationally renowned singers.
Therefore, Bellini’s Bel canto opera produces the wonderful melodies and brilliant passages that highlight the voices of the stars. It is most known for the aria teacher Norma, “Casta diva”. Alex Ollé, member of the innovative theatre company from Catalonia “la Fura dels Baus”, directs with a modern twits this timeless story of love, rivalry and betrayal against the backdrop of war fueled by the extremists of a society governed by religious fanaticism. The musical director of the Royal Opera, Antonio Pappano, directs this unique cast, which includes the Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva in the role of Norma, and Joseph Calleja portraying her secret lover Pollione. In addition, Sonia Ganassi as Adalgisa the priestess, and Brindley Sherratt as the father of Norma: Oroveso.
