Synopsis: Lucia di Lammermoor tells the tale of a long feud between two families in the 17th century Scotland, which ends up having terrible consequences for two young lovers. It has what undoubtedly is one of the most moving and fascinating opera scenes in history and it is considered one of the finest works of Donizetti. The opera has not been seen at the Royal Opera House for more than a decade, so this new production by Katie Mitchell is an important milestone. The main role will be played by Diana Damrau, an expert in the coloratura repertoire, while the North American tenor Charles Castronovo will assume the role of her secret lover, the foolish and passionate Edgardo.
